Oooh La Love,

Everyone welcome another colourful misspaul child into the world! This lovely piece was done surprisingly fast and I didn't have too much of a mind block with it. The words on the 3-d shapes read 'Oh la La, I've fallen in love, And it's better this time than ever before'. These are lyrics from a Foster the people song titled "I would do anything for you" which you can check out here . Listening to this song just really does give you that warm fuzzy feeling inside, especially if you have one significant person who really fills those shoes. I like to call them, darling shoe-fillers. Haha, but in all seriousness, this song was a great inspiration for this work, the girl displaying an innocent clench of her hands together, as if staring at her love themself. The heart in the eye taking most of the space, reflecting that she is overcome by the feeling of love. Since the girl is enriched with such a lovely and vibrant feeling, I mirrored that with a vibrant shirt, however still keeping that solid black continuous throughout the work.

This piece was done on an A3 sized card, the image taking most of the space as I do enjoy the larger scale drawing. The drawing was first done in pencil, and outlined in 0.1 fine-liner. Once the drawing started to take shape I used a pigment oil-base permanent fineliner to colour in most of the black spaces, and thickly outline certain lines. The hair of the figure however was done with a uni-posca paint marker, as was the two geometric shapes. The print on the shirt I used coloured pencil with just a light shading, keeping it quiet soft in application.
Until next time :)

What a fancy face you have!

Well i do say..that is quiet the face. This illustration kookie as always, but on a more lighter note don't you think? misspaul drawings are always odd and can be hard to read the mood of the piece of work. But this drawing is obviously one from a positive place. From the bright colours to the goofy and innocent face of the feature, this is a drawing that I wanted to evoke a cheeky, charming-ness to.
So on this piece of work I used 0.8 Fine-liner and 0.1 fine-liner. The colour is all coloured pencil, (yeah I know, ouch on the fingers!) Most of the colouring was done with a 'suffocate the paper' sort of technique. Where gripping the pencil became one of the most painful experiences ever.. The large area around the letterform, in the aqua was more pleasantly applied by just lightly smoothing the pencil over and doing a few layers of colour. Inspiration for this piece would have to come from two things that are obvious dominant features in this work. That being print, and skulls. I read a book recently called 'the book of skulls.' or flipped through, to be completely honest. It's a book featuring pictures of, well..skulls. Candle skulls, sculptures, posters, graffitti, all things skully! I thought it was pretty cool, and then mixing that with some interesting prints I've grown to love, the more mondo-mexican circus sort of prints really catch my eye! The colour is again, I find very positive and fun. And who doesn't like creating something fun to look at and feel about!
Until next time,

KONY 2012 misspaul style

So if you haven't heard, and have been living in some moss and mushroom infested enclosure for the past week, you wouldn't be aware of the current viral phenomenon that is the KONY 2012 campaign. Basically it is a group called the 'Invisible Children' who created this high quality informative and somewhat documentive video on the on going issue of Rebel groups in Africa enslaving young children as soldiers and sex slaves. It shines light on an issue that is nothing new to the African people, but came as a shock to millions of people around the world. Kony is the man behind the LRA groups and is one of the most wanted people. The video states a plan of 'attack' to make kony famous. Not praise him for his work, but to make him known to the people of the world for his crimes, so that the government will feel that the public cares enough to contribute to kony's capture.

Now, there is a lot of speculation about this campaign and the video. There are fundraising systems such as buying posters, tshirts and bracelets. Many people jumped on board of this cause as soon as they finished watching the emotional heart wrenching video, and who wouldn't! But when the people found out that not all of the money raised goes straight to the African people or the foundation, of course arms flew up in the air. Personally, I don't think that should take away from the issue and mission at hand, but sadly it seems the trend is already dieing down. And once again it seems some people have shyed away from he cause once thinking their pitiful ego was bruised my the media and a trend of following the sheep.

In saying that, I made this rendition of a kony2012 poster. I hand drew it and finelined, then took it to the computer for some refining and the adding of an addition kony poster, being the coloured insertion. I'm all for continuing the awareness of kony, but of course a lot more needs to be done. But isn't it magically wonderful to see your friends and colleagues all believe in something so worthwhile to share with one another?
Hmm, Have a think about it.

If you haven't seen the video as of yet, you can view it > here< And share with friends!

My apologies!

I have been ever so neglectful of my sweet joy of drawing. I hit a bubble which in-cased me in a total mind block of ideas and inspiration. Just recently I've been trying to get the ball rolling a bit, I will post some of my more latest work which you can expect some new shapes and shock horror, LOTS of colour! (I mean lots) I've had some new inspirations kick me back into creative shape these past few weeks, it took a lot of wondering and observing around the city streets to help this happen. I think a lot of my previous work was mono-toned to say the least. The same tune sung too many times. I wanted to continue with my specific esthetic of creating and drawing, but bring something new. Some prints, and again, vibrancy has been a big thing in new drawings. Bringing back the joy into what may have been perceived, as dark and gloomy work.
So I hope you enjoy what new and exciting things I have to show you! I sure am :-)

Queen of hearts

This piece is called 'Queen of hearts' ultimately running along the idea that you, yourself, are the king/queen of your own heart. Bullshitt when people say their heart was stolen, blah blah. It is something that is attached to you, no it won't be stolen, But given in that split moment you are foolish enough to take a risk. Foolish and brave I suppose. Along the side it says 'for you dear' backing up the idea that you are the one who hands your heart over to someone, and you hand it over so peacefully, because you do it with the confidence that it will be taken care of. Being able to give away your heart easily isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it's a dangerous thing. But who knows, would you rather be a fickle anti-love person, or a head in the clouds with love dreamer?

So, fantastical news! Got some new media, and they are colours! So yees yes, the world has gone crazy, I've stuck to colour and lovin' it! So this piece was done on a large sand-coloured tile. I painted a base coat of white acrylic paint with more water than paint mixed, so that you could see the brush strokes and a visible texture was created. Pencil drew the design, then went in with permanent ink markers for outlines. Then, the good stuff. I used my new babies, Uni POSCA Paint markers, which are extremely easy to use, create an absolute flawless and even layer of paint and streaks were nowhere to be seen! Ahh nice flat colour, just the way I like it.
So afterwards went back in with a .4 fineliner and a .2 fineliner to create those finer details :-) Love love love the fluorescent pink, I must say.

Sneak peak

I actually don't know where I was going with this piece. It was a spontaneous combustion of me really wanting to come out with something new. I've been stuck in work mode and a routine that contains sleep, eat, work and nothing more else. So this piece has little-to-no inspiration behind it really, just a bunch of pics I liked and saw and infused this together. Not a favourite work, hardly like it at all actually. But somehow it got a video..geeez-la-weez. Anyhoo check it out!

This piece was done on a normal A3 sketch pad, media used was just acrylic paint and a super ink permanent marker, as well as .4 fineliner. Again, not a fav, I was sloppy with technique and just eager to get something finished. Ohhh how I miss the feeling of accomplishment!

Latest Stuff

who knew I had a dark side huh?
Yes yes, funny. This little project is a selection of black and white drawings I've done. They are a little different from my usual style, but the overall technique and principles are obvious. As you can see, I started this on the 13/07/11. I've gotten into the habit of dating my sketch books or pocket books. Inspiration behind these pieces are well, mostly the thoughts in my head I don't wish to say out loud. We all have moments where we want to back chat, or point out to that stranger they are being a complete knob. But that isn't always possible..or civil. So instead I do what any good teen angst drama queen does, and expressed myself through other forms besides actually getting over it!!~

Just a little something cool I wanted to share!

Sadly, I haven't had the time to do some new stuff. But after bringing out all the works and putting them up, it's really kicked me back into that mode of wanting to do more! wanting to draw more! So with that being said, I'm gonna try do some new shit on the train to work, and even on my breaks. So hopefully some new shit soon! yee-haw

PROG T-SHIRTS!

The time has finally come, Prog tshirts were finally made, and gosh I couldn't just stop at one hey! After a lot of trial and error, and a few pennies down the drain..I worked out a little system. All shirts were done by me, no help or assistance from actual tshirt printers. Happy with the end result, infact. Over the moon! Excited to do some new stuff and get that on shirts too. Let's see how I go then :)
